Not all USB 3.0 portable drives are equally good. This is the maximum that is extrapolated from an article by Xbit Labs, which has tried 6 USB 3.0 750GB external drives. Among the brands tested are Western Digital, Seagate and minor brands such as Silicon Power and Transcend. All models are based on 2.5 inch disks.
The best products? The Diamond D10 of the little-known Silicon Power has obtained the best results in most of the texts, showing the most consistent in tests of reading and writing, displacing big names like Western Digital and Seagate. And with no little surprise, given that the disk of Silicon Power is also the cheapest among all those tested (about 60 € in Italy for the 500GB version).
And hard to avoid? According Xbitlabs best to stay away from Western Digital My Passport Essential SE, the slowest in the test read. Absolutely not recommended even discs Transcend StoreJet family, although that provide performance almost to the top in reading phase proved to be of snails being written.
