The SLR Sigma SD1 was definitely the most unexpected surprise of all the Photokina this year. Particularly interesting is the Foveon sensor that is attached to which is composed of three layers each with a 15.4 megapixel resolution. Dpreview has taken the opportunity to interview some key characters such as Sigma Kazuto Yamaki, Sigma’s Chief Operating Officer, Shri Ramaswami, Foveon Vice President for Technology and Operations, and Rudy Guttosch, Vice President for Strategic Marketing.
Since the acquisition of technology in the Sigma Foveon had understood that we must work to improve what we already had. The engineers have worked to achieve this then APS-C (1.5 x) that is focusing on quality from the picture clarity to the dynamic range and resistance to noise.
The SD1 will not have any support for video initially because the company’s R & D has to focus on the most important characteristics and priorities. In future models with the process of improving the technology will probably also introduced the video mode.
The potential of this technology are obvious and we look forward to try their hand once the future arrives SLR on the market.
