In January, Intel had released its Core i5 540m – this is to be replaced in the fourth quarter of 2010 by the core i5 580M. The clock of the i5 Core 2.66GHz with 580M is higher than the 2.53 GHz of his predecessor. By Turbo-functionality to increase the clock speeds of a single core to 3.33 GHz. The integrated graphics core is clocked at up to 766 MHz, however. As the 540m of the 580M is based on the Arrandale architecture in the 32-nanometer process with graphics core in the 45-nanometer manufacturing process. Both CPUs have two cores, 1066 MHz FSB and 3 MB of cache.

Both CPUs also support hyperthreading and handle as four threads in parallel. The loss of 540m as 580M is 35 watts (TDP) and the only difference between the more powerful Core i7 620M is the larger cache – 4 MB. In the first notebooks should Intel Core i5 580M from the fourth quarter of 2010 to be found.
